Knowledge Systems-Technologies and Applications

This section contains eclectic technical topics, experiments, and research topic details that need to be addressed in order to transfer of concepts from mind-body theories to externalized computer systems.

This section includes papers and presentation addressing technology challenges for calculating accurate sensor measurement predictions for use in model-image feedback algorithms and their integration into computer based construction knowledge systems. Such systems are characterized by networked and interoperable computer architectures that include man-in-the-loop components in practical applications.

Battlefield Knowledge Management Architecture Using Curser-on-Target Tools (2011)-

This presentation describes a computer network architecture using the Curser-on-Target message standard for implementing a Real World Model-Message Sensor Feedback Algorithm in order to route valuable information to users at the right time.

Effectiveness Metrics and Cost Benefit Analysis Methodology for Machine-to-Machine Interoperability Standards (2009)-

This paper presents a software model developed to assess the work load required to achieve interoperability and quantify the extent to which the introduction of standards reduces the work load as a function of delineated standards characteristics.

Accommodating Terrain Error and Vegetation Layer in a Statistical Line-of-Sight Algorithm (2003)-

This paper presents the mathematics and software implementation of calculating visibility from a terrain database when elevation and vegetation transmission errors are taken into account. It received the best paper award at ITEA Symposium, “Test & Evaluation of Advanced Technology Systems” 17-21 November 2003, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.

Weapons Design Analysis using 1-meter Terrain Resolution (2000) –

This paper describes an application of 1-meter terrain and fast PVNT ray tracing perspective view calculations to analyze concealment, cover, and detectability in order to deterministically model engagement effectiveness for alternative scenarios.

SoftwarePerformance Modeling in PC Clusters (1999)-

This paper presents benchmark test results for implementing the fast PVNT ray tracing algorithm in networked Personal Computer (PC) clusters. Such clusters provided a low cost implementation of parallel processing systems required to achieve real time PVNT ray tracing perspective view calculations. Note: Equations deleted.

Toward a Standard Rendering Equation For Intrinsic Earth Surface Classification (1997)-

This paper presents a review of the surface rendering equations, in the wavelength range from the VIS/NIR through the TIR region, used by fast PVNT ray tracing perspective view calculations.

Toward Standards for Interoperability and Reuse in IRSimulation (1997)-

This paper suggests a definition of interoperability for IR simulation, and presents some candidate standards toward accurate IR image calculation from intrinsic material properties in terrain databases.  In particular, the authors present the findings of the IR Posse, including a Standard IR Data Dictionary.
